Mortensen Residence

This second story addition accommodates the needs of a growing family without sacrificing the backyard by going up, not out. The downstairs was opened up to create family gathering spaces and takes advantage of natural light. This was achieved by removing the existing den and interior bedroom walls. The bedrooms are grouped upstairs, allowing the public and private areas to be separated by a floor level. The second story addition completely transforms the home’s façade while maintaining the neighborhood’s character.  Featured in Inside East Sacramento May 2009
